By the numbers
Made to order changes everything
Most storefront software assumes a fixed item with a stock count and price. Handmade crochet works differently. Each piece is made after purchase, using the customer's measurements, and the options affect the price.
So the product model carries options and measurements as first-class fields rather than as a notes box at checkout, and the order that reaches the workshop is a specification rather than a line item.
Selling in two currencies
Customers abroad were being quoted in a currency they had to convert themselves, which loses sales at exactly the wrong moment. Checkout now prices in the customer's currency and settles in the merchant's, with the rate captured at the moment of the order so the books reconcile later.
Handed over properly
The admin covers products, collections, orders and fulfilment states, and it was built for one person running a business rather than for a merchandising team. She adds a collection and photographs a piece without calling us, which was the point.
